Magic Mike Trailer: Channing Tatum Is a Stripper, But He'd Really Rather Be Making Furniture

Back in the fall, Grantland alerted you to the existence of Channing Tatum's Magic Mike — the unlikely male-stripper saga directed by Steven Soderbergh and based on Tatum's own experience in the disrobing game — by asking the good folks at Chippendales to break down the cast's prospects as real-life nude dance entertainers. They were pretty friendly to this whole idea; according to Chippendales dancer Jaymes Vaughan, Matthew McConaughey, in particular, was a promising casting choice because "he’s always got his shirt off, and that’s our signature look." But now the trailer is here, and this movie seems like less of a celebration of the art of seduction via stage/pole and more about Channing Tatum's character's desire to make custom glass coffee tables so that his girlfriend won't be bummed out that he's a stripper. Custom. Glass. Coffee Tables. OK, this movie is way weirder than we ever imagined.
