"After giving myself a full day to think about the 2Pac hologram, after witnessing the 2Pac hologram with my own eyes (I think?), I can confidently say that if this was an isolated incident, I support it, but if it leads to more holograms, Sunday, April 15, 2012, will go down as a dark day in music/science/rest-in-peace history."
Since writing that, I've been borderline stumping for the Anti-Hologram Party, preaching the gospel of "Holograms of the deceased aren't OK. I know you think they are awesome, but guess what? They aren't. Thanks for listening, confused souls." For some reason, I thought I'd have an immediate '08 Obama impact on the community, but I somehow picked the wrong black man and have quickly become Hologram Cain. Not what I was going for.
And then when I thought being laughed out of conversations was bad, this headline emerges today, via TMZ:
TLC: We're Resurrecting Left Eye. FOR A REUNION TOUR
And to make matters worse, this news was announced on the 10th anniversary of Lisa "Left Eye" Lopes's untimely passing in Honduras.
In the story, they use language that makes it slightly unclear if it'll be just like 2Pac's reincarnation ("projecting her image on a big screen and working her vocals into the live performances") but I guarantee if the funding is there it will be a hologram. I can't imagine it simply being a photo montage with corresponding audio. Apparently that's something from our past.
I'm unsure if people think holograms are supposed to help with the coping process or if they are just supposed to be cool and nostalgic, but I pretty firmly disagree with both and don't see myself budging from that stance. Yes, another week has gone by, and I'm still unclear on why it's exactly horrible, but can't a guy have a gut feeling anymore?
So there you have it, two weeks and two hologram reports. I really hope this doesn't turn into a weekly beat, but all signs are pointing the other way. If I were a betting man, I'd put my money on next week's Watch the Throne–esque Mozart/Beethoven hologram tour — just because, why not?
