So much amazing is happening, and the Shootaround crew is here to help you keep track of it all. Here, we make some predictions about the coming NBA season, ranging from the well-founded to the outlandish.
Welcome to my island of asinine predictions, where I base outlandish claims on very brief NBA preseason YouTube highlights. Your room is ready for you. From this island, I can see, off in the distance, a place where we talk about Rajon Rondo as an MVP candidate. I don't think he'll win it — I don't think anyone besides LeBron or Durant can — but I think he'll be in the conversation.
We're going to be talking about Rondo in a new way this year. I have no doubt there will be moments when he is a petulant, distant, and sometimes awkward presence — the one we've come to know, love, or hate over these last few years. But reports coming out of Celtics camp fill me with nothing but where's-my-fainting-couch anticipation. Rondo organizing offseason flag football games for his teammates? Because he "wanted to take everyone out there, so we could play together, get a little chemistry before we start and have a little fun"? Who is this guy? And when can we go play paintball together?

Last season JaVale McGee delighted us with his investigative journalism, sense of direction, singing of Adele, and follow-up dunking. We will no doubt continue to cover JaVale's ups and downs, along with the exploits of his onetime partner in crime, Andray Blatche. But just for fun, we thought it would be cool if we tried to find this season's JaVale — the player with the perfect mix of on-the-court follies and social media highlights (or vice versa). Here's who the Grantland staff came up with.

Take it away, New York Post:
Chicago Bulls legend Michael Jordan surprised his former teammate Scottie Pippen for Pippen’s 47th birthday party Monday night. Pippen’s wife, Larsa, planned the secret bash at Chicago hot spot Sunda. Bulls family, including team president Michael Reinsdorf and his wife, Nancy, NBA power broker William “World Wide Wes” Wesley, Antoine Walker, Ahmad Rashad, and new Bulls recruit and Chicago native Nazr Mohammed gathered to celebrate at the club with Pippen. Sources told us the fun night ended with a dance-off between Jordan and Pippen to the Trey Songz and Fabolous song, “Say Ahh.”
Seven things worth noting:

1. Chris Paul: !!!!!
Chris Paul! Unstoppable! Unforgettable! Probably some other "Un-s", too! Chris Ryan, whom you might remember as your regular Rankonia writer, nominates our hometown hero for this week's top spot:
"I've watched every minute of the Grizzlies-Clippers series. I've seen Tony Allen try to stop Chris Paul. I've seen Mike Conley, Jr. try to stop Chris Paul. I've seen Allen, Rudy Gay, and Marc Gasol try to stop Chris Paul together. I've seen O.J. Mayo try to stop Chris Paul for 90 feet and I've seen Quincy Pondexter try to stop him at the last second. It just doesn't matter. I don't think I ever really knew what it meant for an athlete to be unstoppable until I saw Chris Paul play basketball in the fourth quarter and overtime. Now that I do, I certainly won't forget it."

I had to fill out my brackets Monday, so naturally I called my dad in Southern Illinois, because, you know, he taught me how to shoot a basketball (still not good at that, Dad) and I had already grilled my grandmother a day earlier. I think she likes St. Louis University, at least in the first round.
My dad, an Illinois fan, is out on Rick Pitino Louisville, seems very pro-Murray State (he says Murray gives in-state tuition for students from Southern Illinois. Is this true? Someone tell me this is true), and described Wichita State as "motivated." He also had this to say about Wisconsin's first-round opponent: "I did see a Montana game one time." OK then!
So there you go. A little free March Madness guidance from Mr. Larimer. If that's not enough, you'll also find the brackets from other Grantland editors and staffers below. I sincerely hope you win your office pool this year, but only if you've picked Mizzou to win it all.

We'll be live tweeting along with the Celtics-Lakers game this Sunday over at @GrantlandLive, starting at 3:30 p.m. ET.
