I hope that we will all grow together on this trip, both as individuals
and as a family. We all suffer from narrow filtered views of the world and its peoples.
This is particularly the case for the kids whose world view is almost entirely shaped by
television. While I am looking forward to seeing all of the sites, I am particularly
interested in meeting different peoples of different cultures. I hope to make many new
friends. I think the whole experience will give us a new perspective on our lives. I
suspect that some things that we may think important now, may seem pretty insignificant
when we return.
Gaining a broader perspective is particularly important for the kids as they approach the
anxieties of those teen age years when questions of self-worth and personal identity
become all important. I'm hoping that what they learn about themselves on this trip and
gain the self-identity to make the right decisions in the future. |
