1/21/98, Sorrento, Italy - Day 121

We have had a pleasant time here in Sorrento. The Amalfi Coast is as beautiful as everyone said. Last Monday we took a boat to the Isle of Capri and met up with Catello who was born on the island and drives a 1951 Fiat convertible taxi (see picture). Capri's roads are steep and winding, so it was fortunate that the brakes worked reasonably well. But he did have to pop the clutch to start it. He was our guide for the day and showed us everything from the Roman ruins to where the beautiful people crowd the beaches during the summer. He knows everybody on the island and spending the day with him was like being invited into the family.

The last two days we have been packing up OZ and mailing boxes back to the states. The people in the post office hate us. Tomorrow, Thursday, we are touring Pompeii then heading for Rome where we are meeting up with our Danish friends Carsten and Bolette who we met in the Amazon. Then after a few days in Rome it will be good-bye to OZ and on the Greece. We are all sad about leaving OZ, since it has been our home for the past four months. But one of the things that we have learned on this trip is that home is more of a feeling than a place. Home is wherever we are.
