After lunch at top of Nogorogoro, we began descending down the west side of the crater into the vast plains of the Serengeti. The landscape became more arid as we continued. Occasionally we'd see a giraffe munching on the top of the acacia trees. We also saw many Masai tribesmen along the road walking in their bright red dress. We spent three days in the Serengeti and it was not enough time. The land is so vast and spectacular. We would sometimes be in the middle of hundreds of thousands of wildebeest, zebras, gazelles, ostriches, hartebeests, and cape buffalo that stretched as far as the eye could see to the distant flat horizon. We parked in the middle of a pride of fourteen lions that lounged around oblivious to our presence. We were within a few feet of cheetahs gnawing on their recent gazelle kill. We spent almost an hour just looking in wonder at a herd of sixty elephants. We were surprised by a herd of 15 giraffe that sprinted across the road right in front of us. The animal life in the Serengeti is awe inspiring. But with a backdrop of the beautiful scenery of the Serengeti, where every sunset is an event, the experience is breathtaking.
