Today was a great day in Lima. It hasn't rained here since
1901 and it's constantly overcast like Seattle. Seems that there's only a light drizzle
and because of the cloud layer, everything gets enough moisture. Visted the ancient burial
catacombs and the National Museum. The city's history is only matched by its traffic. They
call the small shuttles that run all over, the "buses of death" in reference to
the way they are driven. Visited the Mira Flores district, an upper class area at the
beach with lots of shops and resturants. They have a park there called "Lover's
Park" where they have a kissing festival every February 14th. They give prizes for
the longest and most passionate kisses. The park is dominated by an enormous statue
depicting the park's theme. All around are lovers apparently practicing for next year's
competition. As you can see by the picture, Sherry and I couldn't resist. Next stop Cuzco.
